Embers Tactics

Painterly Embers Tactics landscape with ivory light, embers, and encroaching darkness

Embers Tactics is a story-rich, single-player, turn-based tactical RPG set in a character-driven fantasy world. Assemble a small party from dozens of unique playable characters and build each one around a deep job system, complemented by personal growth and unique abilities. Lead your party across 3D isometric battlefields featuring pixel-art characters in a carefully balanced game that keeps progression and equipment meaningful throughout the journey, supporting a wide variety of viable builds and tactical approaches.

An Independent Video Game

I'm Alex, the solo developer working on Embers Tactics, a project I officially began in May 2026. I am producing it full time and self-funding it, while collaborating with freelancers where their expertise is essential, including Celestra, whose character illustrations bring the cast to life. My goal is to make a game guided by care and creative conviction rather than trends. Embers Tactics is planned for PC, and ideally for Switch 2 and Steam Deck, while PlayStation and Xbox console releases remain uncertain. I publish detailed monthly devlogs for anyone who wants to follow its development. I am open to collaborating with other passionate people, and would especially welcome help with its soundscape: sound effects, ambience, and music.

An Intimate Adventure

Embers Tactics follows Aelis, a young warrior who leaves the only city she has ever known to rekindle Beacons in the name of the Witness. Raised in its faith, she sets out into a land she barely understands, where each place, trial, and encounter challenges what she has been taught. Her journey is also shared with dozens of distinctive playable characters, each with their own story, perspective, and narrative arc.

Deep Tactical Gameplay

Heavily inspired by the Final Fantasy Tactics series and Dofus, the gameplay is built around small teams, readable decisions, and tactical depth. Dozens of jobs, carefully tuned leveling, stats, and equipment support a wide range of builds without making most gear obsolete as the adventure progresses. Jobs shape much of a character's growth, while personal stats and unlockable unique abilities keep every companion flexible without locking them into a lore-defined role. Unused units can grow as observers, sharing passive abilities that add a tactical reason to rotate the roster. Semi-random Oaths will also challenge battles with bonuses and penalties, making the most valuable rewards harder to earn.

Follow Development

Embers Tactics will be a long and demanding journey. Each month, I will take the time to share the key stages of production, from progress made to the challenges encountered. These devlogs will help me document the path travelled, let you follow the game's evolution, and, I hope, offer a behind-the-scenes look at independent game development: the choices, mistakes, obstacles, and lessons along the way. Above all, I want them to show that, with passion and perseverance, creating your own independent video game is possible. Independence and passion will remain at the heart of this project.
